Jujutsu Kaisen x Gindaco collab (Dec 21st, 2024)

You might wonder if you can see anime in daily life if you stay in Japan... and I can say, definitely yes. I took this photo in front of one of my favorite takoyaki stores, Gindaco. When I visited a few months ago, they were collaborating with Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba). Well, this time, as you can see on this poster, they are collaborating with Jujutsu Kaisen from November 15th this year until February 14th next year.

I bet you, visiting my website, probably know what Jujutsu Kaisen is, but just in case, let me explain it for you!

Jujutsu Kaisen
(呪術廻戦, rgh. "Sorcery Battle")[a] is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. It was serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from March 2018 to September 2024, with its chapters collected in 28 tankōbon volumes as of October 2024. The story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers to eliminate a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. You can find Jujutsu Kaisen on Netflix or other streaming services. It's filled with adorable jujutsushis (sorcerers). The characters featured on the poster are Nanami, Gojo-sensei (the teacher) and his students Itadori, Megumi and Nobara.

The Jujutsu Kaisen x Gindaco collaboration includes several small events, with the third event starting on December 20th. During this third event, Gindaco introduced a new takoyaki menu item: "Yuji Itadori’s Green Onion Mayonnaise Chicken Meatball Ankake (thick sweet soy sauce)." Each box contains 8 takoyakis and costs 980 yen (approximately $6.50 USD). If you buy a box of this special takoyaki, you'll receive a takoyaki box cover featuring Yuji Itadori, as well as a random card.

This is a catalog of all 10 cards, and you can randomly get one of them. The cards feature the following characters: Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, Aoi Todo, Choso, Sukuna, Yuji Itadori (vol.2), Kento Nanami, Satoru Gojo, and Suguru Geto.

When I entered the store, I saw a big banner hanging from the ceiling. To be honest, I don't think Green Onion Mayonnaise Chicken Meatball Ankake Takoyaki is that delicious... but, well, I was curious about it.

I received a takoyaki cover and a random card as soon as I placed my order. They told me it would take 5 minutes to make the takoyaki.

The store was so small that I couldn’t find a place to sit, so I sat on a chair in the park in front of it. It looks tasty, doesn’t it?

I was wondering what exactly ‘Ankake’ is... and it seems like it’s a sticky sauce with burdock root and small chicken meatballs.

Another photo of the takoyaki and Yuji Itadori. I ordered Yuji and got free takoyaki. (Just kidding!) The Green Onion Mayonnaise Chicken Meatball Ankake Takoyaki wasn’t as bad as I had worried. The original takoyaki itself tastes wonderful. I was concerned about the ankake, as I hadn’t tried it before, but it tastes like sweet soy sauce and goes well with the fresh green onions.

This is a photo of the entire Gindaco store from the outside. If you order at the left side of the counter, the staff on the right side will make the takoyaki.

I got Sukuna from the random card. The front is glossy-coated, and the back features a handsome face shot from the animation. If you plan to visit Japan this winter, you can enjoy delicious takoyaki and test your luck for a random card!
